Eric Lee

Eric Lee is Managing Director of United Capital Rapid City, formerly Purple Wealth. Eric is in his 22nd year in the profession of financial advice. As a second-generation adviser, he was raised around the investment business. In the summer of eighth grade, Eric’s father required him to start investing 50 percent of his lawn-mowing earnings into a solid investment company. He still owns that investment today, which formed the foundation of his belief in long-term investing. In the ninth grade, Eric dabbled in purchasing stock options on a national restaurant chain. This experience taught him firsthand the importance of capital preservation and the lifelong lesson that avoiding big investment losses is the key to long-term investment success. Eric began pursuing his entrepreneurial spirit during college, where he started a successful enterprise selling custom-designed T-shirts to fraternities, sororities and various clubs at the University of Wyoming and also his own booth at the 50th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in 1990. The T-shirt business formed a tenacious focus on understanding his customers’ needs and serving their best interests, as well as a burning desire to learn, grow and innovate.

After nine years as a professional Financial Adviser, Eric resigned from Merrill Lynch and the traditional brokerage business in 2001 to found Purple Wealth (formerly known as KT Investment Advisors) because he believed that objective, unbiased financial guidance is a fundamental need for everyone. His vision was simple: Provide a service that he would buy himself if he were the client. Eric says: “I, myself, needed more than simply investment ideas.” Like many of his clients, Eric is a business owner and a professional working fulltime in his business. He has a fulfilling, extraordinarily busy family life, owns investment real estate, and has multiple types of investment accounts. He juggles the responsibility of supporting his immediate family and the needs of extended family as they enter their elder years. Eric understands first hand that investments, insurance, tax planning, employee benefits, estate planning, etc. are continuous and burdensome for many successful families. Eric and the team at Purple Wealth, now United Capital Rapid City have developed a system to keep all aspects of wealth management highly organized, proactive and focused on turning life’s aspirations into realities. Eric says he’s most proud of how transparent, honest and unbiased his team is with clients in their approach.

Eric’s primary responsibility is to plan and direct all aspects of the firm’s investment strategy. He leads the research, evaluation and selection of investment vehicles for client portfolios. Eric holds the Series 7 and 63 securities registrations as well as Health and Life Insurance licenses. Eric graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1990. In addition to his professional activities, Eric has been an active volunteer in the community, previously serving as President of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Black Hills, United Way of the Black Hills Board member, Junior Achievement, Wellspring Board Member, Rapid City Regional Hospital Advisory Council and Treasurer for Black Hills Rapids Soccer Club, among others. Eric and his wife, Terri, have two middle school-age daughters.
