Hilary Swain


Hilary manages fixed income portfolios for United Capital clients. She has led the fixed income advisory and management services for of the firm since 1995. She has 30 years of experience in managing fixed income assets.

She began her career in the municipal bond group at Chemical Bank in New York, then moved to R. W. Corby and Co., a Washington DC-based bond underwriting and trading firm. She managed the Corby fixed income department and was a member of the firm's governing board. In 1993, she joined the New York firm Artemis Capital, one of the top ten underwriters nationally of municipal bonds, as an underwriter and trader of municipal issues.

Hilary Swain's bond pricing, trading, and management knowledge involves dealing with top portfolio managers and underwriters across the country. With her underwriting and trading experience, Hilary focuses on bringing value to client portfolios. Hilary's experience extends through a multitude of business cycles and interest rate environments, allowing her to effectively counsel institutional and individual clients on fixed income strategies for short and long term goals.

Hilary is a native third generation Washingtonian, has two grown sons, and married Frank S. Swain in 2010. She received a B.A. from Lake Forest College. Hilary is a member of United Capital of Bethesda’s Management Committee. She is Vice Chairman of the board of Oldfields School, a member of the Chevy Chase Club Retirement Benefits Committee, and a member of Christ Church Georgetown. Her previously held FINRA licenses have included Series 7, 53, and 65.
